Civil War

LESSON DESCRIPTION 1

Students will learn why the Civil War happened.

STRATEGY h1cw

Instructor will ask students what was the Civil War.

Instructor will split students into groups. Each group will discuss different topics about the Civil War.

Instructor will ask students to express their findings.

Instructor will ask students when and where the Civil War took place.
Instructor will ask students who made the decision to go to war.
Instructor will ask students who the President of the United States was at the time of the Civil War.
Instructor will ask students who the blue coats were and what they represented.
Instructor will ask students who the gray coats were and what they represented.

ONLINE STRATEGY

Students will read literature on the Civil War.
Students will have set times to meet in their group using WIMBA.
Students will blog their findings as a group.
Students will describe the geographic location using powerpoint slides.
Students will create a quiz with ten questions for the other groups to answer.

ALTERNATE ONLINE STRATEGY

Instructor will meet with students for a web conference using WIMBA or another whiteboard equipped web conferencing tool.

Instructor will start meeting with brainstorming ideas of the Civil War. What do the students know?

Instructor will have students choose a different color for identity purposes when using the whiteboard.

Students will design a word puzzle pertaining to the Civil War after the conference. Using Word and e-mail students will submit project to Instructor.

DESCRIPTION:
This is an assignment pertaining to the Civil War. The class will be divided into even groups to read, answer the group's question, design a quiz and complete a powerpoint with a map and a word puzzle.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

1. Each group will name and describe one aspect of the Civil War.
2. Each group will follow the directions received from the instructor.
3. Each group will record data to validate their findings.
4. Each group will develop a map.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Upon successful completion of this lesson, students will:

1. List ten facts about the Civil War.
2. Describe the Era.
3. Apply knowledge learned today.
4. Construct three ways to communicate online as a group.

ASSESSMENT

Each group will submit their questions and answers to the Instructor as a powerpoint slide. The Instructor will compile the slides and in a group WIMBA session. Students will answer (groups x 10) questions . Students will then submit a discussion on their blog. Each student will respond to two blog discussions by other students.
