Inflating Professor Lowe's War Balloon

"INTREPID"
Prof. Lowe’s Famous War Balloon
Professor Lowe designed and developed the balloon in hopes that the men fighting would have a familiar site to help keep their bearings.
Little did they know in 1783 when the discovery that hot air or a lighter-than-air gas captured in a big bag could propel a basketful of humans beginning in 1906 (Kim Veseley, Balloon Fiesta Heritage Committee for the 2009 Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta).
Balloons Everywhere!
The air was cold the sky was dark. Thousands of people were everywhere awaiting the rise of the early morning sun. Could this be the day? All week people from all over have visited the park hoping for the exciting chance to see the most spectacular event of the year "The Balloon Festival in New Mexico".
The weather must be just right! The wind must be perfect! The excitement is phenomenal!
A regular balloon is 40 feet wide by 70 feet high. When you have 650 balloons in a huge field just waiting for the daylight to arrive it is spectacular! What is a balloon fest; a rainbow of color, a mountain of shapes, and a rollercoaster of thrills. People of all ages and sizes gather to watch as the balloons ascend into the air. The only thing better than watching the lift off is being in one!
A lot of time, money and training goes into piloting a balloon.
